When Scanlan was killed during the second fight with Raishan, Vax was devastated. As soon as Raishan was dead, the rogue immediately ran over to the corpse of his friend and cradled him against his chest. Until he reached the temple of the Raven Queen in Whitestone, Vax only let go of Scanlan's body for a moment, when he passed the gnome over to Grog so that he could check a door for traps. He then immediately took back the body and resumed cradling it.
In the temple of the Raven Queen, Vax gently laid out Scanlan's body and cleaned it. As he did so, he prayed to the Raven Queen, telling her that Scanlan was a good man with a big heart who deserved a second chance.[1]
Despite this, Vax did not participate in Scanlan's resurrection ritual, partly because he felt the others who were present—namely Grog, Pike, and Kaylie—had a closer relationship to the bard than he did, but also because he felt that, given their recent interactions,[what interactions?] Scanlan would not have wanted to listen to him.[2]
